December News
Thank you Anoterry, Christina, Ted, Chris and Anonymous for your generous donations!
Also Big Thanks to Rancho Cacachilas for letting us use the new Palapa at the Bike Portal for the rescue team training, and for letting us store our rescue team gear there, for 24/7 access!
Now on some different update… as you might know, last year LaVESTA collaborated with IMPLAN in the work for the Urban Development Plan (PDU).
This accomplished two things
- Getting the trails on the PDU maps
- A lot of the land on which the trails are built (not all), was zoned in such a way that at most only “glamping” could occur.
It did NOT change the possibility of the land being sold to a private and fenced off however.
A couple weeks ago, thanks to the Secretary Rodrigo Lucero, I was invited to talk to the Ejido Assembly, to introduce the idea of creating a park in the ejido “common use land” where our trails are located.
To be invited to work with the Eijdo to try and preserve land together is huge and we thank them for this great opportunity!
I gave a short but well received speech, and LaVESTA will follow up in the new year with a more developed plan that is in the making.
It was amazing, right after the meeting, to have a couple of folks come up and tell me that they were related to kids that participated in our classes.
The making of a more official plan will require navigating of a lot of different moving pieces and LaVESTA is bringing onboard conservation specialists that have successfully worked with Ejidos to protect land in other areas. This is a long process that LaVESTA is passionate about and working hard towards. We’ll keep you posted on progress and we continue to ask for your trust and donations to help us reach our goals of protecting trail access for future generations.
